Life on the road can be both good and bad. It depends on how you look at it. You get to meet new people, see new places and experience new things, most of the time though, it can get real lonely. In my previous job, I had to visit each of our California offices regularly after flying in from the east coast and oftentimes would have to employ
airport transportation in La Crescenta, our main office, to and fro from the airport, sometimes using another
airport car service in La Canada and back again. I was traveling so much that I had become a familiar face with the people at the
airport car service in Pasadena and even became friends with some of the people who worked there.
I also had to fly all over the country to meet various clients, in and out of different states, often landing in the most unusual places. I was constantly traveling from coast to coast trading one hotel room for another. It had gotten to a point where I would wake up groggily in my house thinking I was still in a hotel room and call for room service with hilarious results.
One time, I tried to use a
limo service in Pasadena CA and found it a very pleasant experience albeit the relatively higher price. My driver arrived at the agreed time and was not a minute late and of course I lapped it all up; a chance at riding in a limo doesn’t come all that often. Arriving at the airport was much better: everyone was looking at me as I exited my limo in my suit looking sharp and very important. Feeling confident at the meeting, I closed the deal with the client with ease. Needless to say, I was very happy.
The next time I tried it, it was a different story. I called this one company that was offering
Glendale limo service and was shocked to learn that my car was not coming for me. For some reason, the idiot at the desk failed to schedule my appointment and therefore no car was reserved for me. Already running late, I knew I was going to get into a lot of trouble with my boss if I did not make the flight. Fortunately this incident didn’t end up with me getting fired as I barely managed to make the flight. Good thing I closed that deal as I was really thinking of suing. Not wanting to add to the stress, I decided to just forget the incident and focus on my job. Maybe I should just stick with the regular car service, I thought to myself.
Nowadays, I don’t travel that much anymore, choosing instead to spend more time with the wife and kids. That experience taught me a lot about life on the road but in hindsight, I think I’d rather stay at one place…for now. If wanderlust strikes again you never know, maybe I’ll strap my shoes on and get back on the road.
