TransUnion LLC is an example of a consumer credit reporting agency that is also recognized as a credit bureau. It is considered as one among the three major credit agencies in the United States that is also composed of the other two companies namely Equifax and Experian. TransUnion is a company that was founded on 1968 by the Union Tank Car Company as their holding division. Before all these things have started and before they have this crediting business, they first acquired the Credit Bureau of Cook County (CBCC) in the year 1969. Because of the Federal Trade Commission, TransUnion has changed. The FTC has some regulations that the TransUnion must follow. There are specifically two acts and these are the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA), both of these greatly affect the creditors and the consumers. FCRA are assuring the consumers that they have the right to view their credit and they also have the right to know all the negative information that is documented and are investigated in the case of dispute. The latter is concentrating on billing issues. Apart from these acts, there are also some lawsuits that are brought upon against credit bureaus that are assuring that all the disputes will be investigated and solved quickly.


It is your right to get a free TransUnion credit report and in order for you to do that you must contact TransUnion first. It is stated in the FCBA that all the consumers have the right to get a free report once a year. If a consumer who wants to have unlimited access then you can have it by paying for a membership fee.

You must not only ask for a free report. It will be best if you will also ask for a tri-merge report which comes from the three major bureaus. If ever you see some suspicious things then you can report this immediately to TransUnion via online, phone, or mail. The company will respond within a month so you must contact them as quickly as possible. You really need to protect your name and your credit.
