As the land of entertainment and fun, Orlando is one destination guaranteed to keep you on your toes. Bathed in golden sunshine and filled with an unparalleled array of theme parks, golf courses and shopping opportunities, it’s the perfect place to keep the whole family amused, regardless of when you go.
Cited as one of the USA’s most visited cities, it’s located in the south-east of the country, within the state of Florida. Traditionally famous for being a major citrus-growing area, Orlando is now renowned for its impressive range of amusement attractions, which include Walt Disney World, the Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld.
Established in 1971, the Walt Disney World Resort is the largest of its kind and attracts more visitors than any other recreational resort. Home to a staggering four theme parks, two water parks and 23 themed hotels, there’s more than enough to keep you entertained.
The Magic Kingdom, the first of Walt Disney World’s attractions, is one of the resort’s most popular locations. Having opened in 1971, it has built up a huge collection of sites, including Main Street U.S.A, Adventureland and Liberty Square: Epcot and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which were added to the resort in later years, are also highlights.
If that were not enough, there’s also a plethora of other entertainment options available at Downtown Disney, such as shopping malls and evening activities, making any trip to the resort a complete holiday in itself. The Cirque du Soleil theatre and Planet Hollywood restaurant are two great examples of where to find entertainment away from the theme parks.
The Universal Orlando Resort is the second largest resort, after Walt Disney World and offers up a great selection of rollercoasters and attractions. Split into six themed areas, including Hollywood, New York and KidZone, there’s also a number of cinemas and clubs scattered around, making it an ideal place for after dark entertainment.
One of the most interesting parts of the resort however, is Universal Studios Florida. Having created a theme park based around the movies, its aim is to make visitors feel like they are part of a film set. As such, all the rides have been inspired by popular films and characters, like E.T and the Simpsons.
A veritable treasure trove of all things water-related, SeaWorld is a brilliant example of what water parks should be all about. Featuring an incredible variety of marine animals, such as captive orcas, dolphins and sharks, the park is also home to a host of rollercoasters and watery rides. One of the best attractions, though, is Shark Encounter, which sees visitors transported into a shark’s tank by way of an underwater viewing tunnel.
In addition to the theme parks and entertainment resorts on offer, Orlando also has some of the most unique accommodation options around. Indeed, boasting the second largest number of hotel rooms in the USA, there’s a variety of options to go for, ranging from themed
Disney hotels to luxury spas, thus ensuring every taste is catered for.
