The economic slowdown is still felt by everyone, and this does not help encourage the Christmas spirit.  But no matter how bad the financial situation has become, people can’t hold back the time and skip Christmas this year.  They just have to find creative ways to celebrate it as well as uphold the traditional gift-giving come Christmas season.

One good tip for resourceful people is to make a gift list early so they can plan their shopping.  Before getting gifts, it is advisable for them to have a budget in mind so they would not overdo their shopping and resist the urge to splurge on purchases.  Then, with a set amount, they could take out a small instant payday loan to use for the purchases.  They could look out for bargains, sales, and discounts in the couple of months leading to Christmas so they could avoid the last-minute rush.  But for the more creative types, they could save some more cash by preparing their Christmas gifts themselves.  And, as always, food is a welcome and most appreciated gift in any occasion.

One good Christmas food gift, especially when attending get-togethers with family and friends, is homemade ham.  Surprisingly, it seems that every Christmas season, one of the fast moving items—whether sold in stores or even online—is ham!  For many families, the Christmas celebration would not be complete without a big, fat, juicy ham on their Christmas table, along with the pudding and the eggnog.  Or, enterprising people could even make a few extra hams to sell to friends and others.  Here are a few facts and tips to inspire people to make their own delicious but affordable ham and cure or preserve it just right for the coming holidays.

When making delectable hams, there are four common ingredients: Curing salt, phosphate, ascorbic acid and oil of anise.  To preserve and create the wonderful color of the meat, the pink-colored curing salt is always used.  Phosphate, on the other hand, is used to make the marvelous meat slightly gummy to the touch.  This particular ingredient loosens up the meat muscles to add to its water-holding capacity, and in turn, lock in the various spices.  It also makes the meat extra tender.  Another quality ingredient is ascorbic acid, an antioxidant and anticarcinogenic element to add to the ham to accelerate color fixation while curing.  Last but not the least, oil of anise is the source of that licorice taste of hams.

Preparing for the Christmas feast may be early to prepare for that night but it is better to start making plans ahead of time.  If short of cash, it is easy to get faxless payday loans now to add to the gift-giving budget and make the coming season cheerful and bright.
