Cairns is a city, with a population of 100,000, in the upper north region of Queensland, Australia. The pleasant, beachy weather brings about 78.5 inches of rain a year, and a typical temperature of around 78 degrees Fahrenheit, or 26 degree Celsius. The residents of Cairns experience their monsoon season from December to April, and the rest of the year stays mildly dry. The weather is one of the many reason travelers flock to this part of Australia.

Tourists also love dining in the city's extraordinary restaurants, shops, and boutiques. And, when they get an itch to take some day trips, most people keep Cairns as their main location while traveling to the Great Barrier Reef, the Wet Tropics, or perhaps the Atherton Tableland. And, when they return, they have a numerous selection of accommodations ranging from hostels for backpackers to 5 star resorts.

Also, for those who love outdoor activities, Cairns will not disappoint. Their breathtaking ocean beaches provide snorkeling, even at the great Barrier Reef. There is also fishing, skydiving, white water rafting, and sailing to and from small islands off the coast of Cairns.

After a long day of having fun and enjoying nature, visitors can return to their hotels and enjoy delicious meals with some wine, or get dressed and check out what the night life of Cairnes has to offer. But, for those tourists on a budget, such as college students staying at a backpacking hostel, there are wallet friendly ways to have fun. They can use vouchers for discounted meals in restaurants, go white water rafting at a pool, or try their hand at sumo-wrestling with a fellow traveler. Obviously, Cairns does cater to the younger, party-type crowd, as well as families. There are even apartments with two bedrooms and pull-out beds, just what a family needs. And some resorts offer babysitting services for parents who want to enjoy an outing alone. With all of the wonderful hotels to stay at, it is no wonder Cairns is a hot vacation spot. Solo tourists, college students, families. There is something for ever vacationer in Cairns.
