Who decides what the perfect body image looks like? Me? You? Society? I'm not sure how or when we jumped off the tracks on this one. But we not only jumped off, we literally shot off the tracks like a rocket.
The amazing thing is that we just continue down the wrong road, even though we know there is nothing but a train wreck at the end of the line. Is that nuts or what?
Of course, it's not too tough to see how often we have to look at the wrong road. In fact, it's pretty much staring us in the face every day. Just open a magazine or watch a commercial on TV. It doesn't take very long to figure out who THEY think is beautiful or special or great.
The problem is that for whatever reason, they are the ones who have the bodies we only wish we had. They are the ones that we've been led to believe have the answers. Just look at them. They can't have any problems. They must be happy.
But the real truth has been hidden, discounted, and overlooked. Here is some real truth:
First, God created every single person differently. Nowhere on this earth will you find two people who are exactly the same. So how can you ever expect to aspire to look or be exactly like somebody else? It's sort of nuts to think that just because somebody else has a thinner body or nicer hair or more perfect nails, that you are substandard. Why do we make that assumption?
Second, you can continue to strive for what you perceive as the ideal body image until you die, but the truth is, you are already perfect. You were made that way. OK, so you've let some things get a little out of control, but that absolutely does not change the fact that God did not make a mistake when He made you, and He made you just the way you are.
Accepting yourself for who you are the way you are starts on the inside and works its way out. You can change your thinking. And since you move toward what you think about, your life can change when you control your thoughts.
There are workable solutions for the areas in your life you want to change. There are weight loss programs that can and do work IF you change what's on the inside first. There are self image programs that help you focus on the positive so you can build yourself up. And mostly, you can surround yourself with positive, life affirming people who will help you see who you really are.
