Is all traffic equal? Not at all… the right targeted web traffic is where the money is. Getting ranked for a generic term may get many searches but may also be a waste of your time. What good is 1000 visitors a day if none of them take action?

You might be seeking a solution and even considering paying someone to optimize your website in a quest to drive sales or opt-ins... But wait... before you do, consider a few things you can do yourself (3 easy steps if you will) to get laser targeted web traffic.

First, why would you want and what is "targeted" web traffic? Simply put, if you are selling "yellow widgets for women"... do you want a person just typing search for "widgets" or someone looking for a "women yellow widget"? The "long-tail" term is targeted and specific to your product which means it will more likely convert to a sale...

When you focus on the specific "long-tail" term you will obviously reduce the number of searches. However, what you are left with is people looking for what you are offering.

Which leads to step one...

Step 1) "Targeted" Keyword Selection:

Of course this is assuming you know who your customer is (if not then start by identifying "who" the customer is). Targeted traffic comes for targeting "certain" search term. Get specific by using a service like Google Keyword Tool (which is free - do a search). Place your sites URL in there and see what comes up. Pick a couple of terms that are specific, have search volume and not "too" competitive.

Step 2) On-Page "Targeted" Optimization:

If you want targeted web traffic then tell the search engines just that. There is much more to this than mentioned here but... in a nut shell do a couple of things now and get more information to "optimize". Right now you can a) place the targeted keyword term in the title tag. b) Use it in the description tag. c) Create your content using the term and "bold it" once in the copy. d) For a quick entry into the search engines... buy a domain with the "targeted keyword" but... fail to do the next step and it may be short lived...

Step 3) Off-Page Optimization:

This one can be tedious and time consuming. Which is why many will not do it, giving you an edge in getting the web traffic you want... "targeted" back-links. Some back-link sources are much more valuable than others (not to be dealt with here). One thing that is usually common among the back-links that help you get the targeted web traffic is that they have your keyword term as the "anchor text".

These represent a good starting point to get free "Targeted Web Traffic". You can 1) Use targeted keywords; 2) Optimize Your Page for the term; 3) Use Back-links with "Targeted" anchor text.

Then move to the proven tactics that have been tested and proven but only made available to a few and learn the insiders methods of search engine optimization...
