Getting a six pack is not as easy as the infomercials make out. It takes time, effort and motivation. But as difficult as it may seem it is something we can all achieve with two simple steps.
Exercise
When it comes to exercise you will need to split your time between cardio, weights and specific abdominal exercises.
The secret to effective cardio is interval training. The idea (for example) is to walk for one minute, jog one minute, sprint one minute and repeat 10 times, do this twice a week and you are well on your way to burning fat and showing off your abs. You can do interval training on a treadmill, a bike in a pool or just out in the park, you can do it anywhere.
When you lift weights you need to understand that muscle uses more calories than fat, so the more lean muscle you have the faster you burn fat. Lifting weights works hand in hand with cardio and specific ab exercises. Your muscles use more calories than fat so this aides your cardio work and when you lift weights your indirectly use your core muscles giving you extra strength and stability for your abdominal exercises.
Finally; abdominal workouts. There are hundreds if not thousands of abdominal exercises out there so you have no excuse for not mixing things up and surprising your abs every now and then. Use a swiss ball, do old fashioned sit ups, use Pilates movements, whatever you do mix it up so you don’t get bored. You don’t need to do hundreds of crunches to build a six pack. Add in a few core strengthening exercises like Plank or Side Plank and you will gain incredible strength to do more advanced ab exercises. Don’t be afraid to experiment.
Nutrition
And now for the most important part of getting a six pack, your diet. You can spend hours doing crunches, sit ups and hanging knee raises and have an amazing set of abdominal muscles but if you are not eating right then they will stay covered behind a layer of unsightly fat and we will never know how good they actually look.
So if you want to show off your six pack abs then you need to stop eating white bread, fast foods, pastas, candy, sodas, anything with corn syrup and just say no to desert. There are a lot of foods that will help you reach your six pack goal: Whole grain breads, fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, lean meat and fish and water.
You seriously need to remain disciplined when it comes to food and your six pack. It is normal to have an off day occasionally, when it happens accept it and get back on track. That is the difference between those who succeed and those who don’t. They don’t beat themselves up, they see the mistake they have made and they don’t repeat it.
If you can follow these simple guidelines for three months you will see a huge improvement in your abs. So remember the keys to a great six pack are balance your training between interval and weight training with a focus on specific ab exercises and a diet aimed at revealing your six pack. With a little dedication and motivation you will have no trouble reaching your goal and showing off that sexy six pack.
