You have probably heard the term "burnout". It seems to be a major topic of business conversation. It's discussed within home based business communities as well as online business forums. We think about it, wonder if we have it, and ponder reasons for its existence.

Estimates are that seven out of every ten of us feel burned out at some point in our lives. And the most common emotion felt seems to be the fear that surrounds it. We think about it and wonder - is it happening to me? and if not, will it happen to me?

However, have you ever thought about the positive side of feeling burned out? Is there a positive side to feeling burned out? Let's really think about this...

Most of the time, burnout is a chance to make some new, fun, or exciting changes in your life! If we never experienced burn out, we might be completely content to just keep experiencing the same old boring results or keep living with the same, unchanging routine.

Without the feeling of burn out, you might never make any major changes in your life!

There was a time in my life when I really thought I wanted to work in an office environment my whole life. I felt safe and content for awhile and really enjoyed most of the people. Life at my office went along in a fairly predictable manner - periods of stress, deadlines, upheaval, followed by slow periods of inactivity and boredom. I would use the slow periods to catch up on work, conversation, maybe take advantage of some of my sick time...and then start the cycle all over again. I was actually okay with this for several years. But after awhile I started noticing I really wanted more out of life, the periods of stress were starting to seem to last longer, as well as the general feeling of boredom - or maybe it was just apathy. Either way, I began to feel burned out.

If it wasn't for those feelings of burn out, I would probably still be at that office. Which means I would have never tried to start my own online business, I would never have experienced the joy of working at home part time, and most importantly, I would never have realized how easy it was for me to take control of my life and make more money!

As I look back on all of the times I made big positive changes in my life - it was always preceded by a period of what I now call "positive burnout".

The message here is don't start to panic or become discouraged when you begin to experience burn out. Remember, your negative feelings are just your perspective of what your current situation is. An easy way to change your perspective is to keep in mind that the burn out you are experiencing may just be temporary.

However, if you continue to have these feelings - it's just a sign that positive changes may be right around the corner! Maybe it's time to investigate new alternatives or new experiences. Maybe all you need is a new approach to an old routine, or perhaps a whole new way of doing things. Experiment, have fun with your life, try new things, learn new skills. This is your chance to grow!

Burn out does have a negative reputation, no doubt about it. But with a new perspective, you can see it for what it really is - a positive change in disguise! And if you learn to use burn out as the tool it is, you can use it to push yourself to try new things, and begin new adventures - like starting an online business - or working at home part time!
