Millions of Americans suffer with the struggles of being in debt. During these times of financial hardship it is important to know how to save as much money as possible. With this money saving tips you can help yourself climb out of the debt hole or avoid getting into even more debt.

If you have kids or are expecting more children on the way then shop carefully for their clothes. You do not have to get specialized clothes for your little girl or boy. Buy gender neutral clothes so that the baby on the way can wear the same clothes as the current child once that child out grows them. Also buy their clothes from a thrift shop. Kids that young are not going to care what they look like and you should not have to worry about it either. You can also buy their toys from there too. Any toy is going to seem new to a baby regardless if it is or not.

While you are buying clothes for your children, you should not hesitate to shop for yourself at the thrift store as well. And take advantage of garage sales as much as possible. Just because something is used it does not mean it is bad quality. Remember, another person's trash can be your treasure. And do not be too concerned with what is trendy. Most of the “trendy” clothing are of the same quality as cheaper clothes. All you are doing is paying for a name. You also should not be ashamed to wear clothes more than once a week. You can wear a pair of jeans numerous times as long as you keep them clean and hang them up at night. This will save you money on washing clothes. If there is a good sale going on take advantage of it. You will be able to get clothes you could not get at thrift store for around the same price. And when shopping, be strategic. Buy your summer clothes at the end of summer and your winter clothes at the end of winter. You don't have to worry about wearing “out of season” clothes. Every year they have “different” clothes out but the differences are small compared to the year before. Plus, these clothes will be cheaper than at the beginning of each season.

Food is another big category that can easier drain your money. From now on, no more eating out. Sure we all like to go out and eat but it is just too expensive. Instead, just go out on special occasions and limit those occasions as much as possible. Also you do not have to finish your meals all in one sitting. Eat your meal slowly and you will get full with less food. That way you can take whatever you did not finish home and you will already have a meal for the next day. When shopping for food, cut out sodas, alcohol and desserts altogether. These are all comfort foods and are not essential for your daily nutritional intake. Cook all your meals as often as possible or buy a lot of frozen foods.

These are only a few tips you can use to save money. There are plenty of other tactics that you can do but just remember the less you spend the more you save. If you can refrain from buying anything outside of the necessities then you should get out of debt in no time.
