England has a long history of multiculturalism and people come to Britain from all over the world. You need a limited amount of knowledge of the English language to be granted citizenship in England however many immigrants do not know enough to pass a conversation in English. It is difficult to integrate with the rest of society if you cannot speak the same language as them. Why come to a country and make no effort to learn its language if you are going to live here for the rest of your life.
It might be a controversial issue, but if everyone living in England is able to speak fluent English, cultures are not being erased but we are able to share our cultural differences instead of been ignorant of them. This is why TESOL teachers are so important, so adults and children who do not know English can learn and society can become a more accepting place. This is not to say that everyone who speakes a different language should stop and is never allowed to speak English again, but making it easier for people form different cultures and countries to talk with each other could do a lot to erase many of the social tensions that can be found in cities, towns, villages and the UK as a whole.
Teaching English to speakers of other languages is also known as TESOL, and it is a skilled and rewarding career. You need to be graduate in order to teach English to immigrants. If you are working in the private sector you can sometimes get a job without a degree but you have to have an excellent grasp of the English language. To be able to work in a government funded school in the UK you will need a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). This is ideal for recent graduates who would be willing to complete a PGCE as there is a much greater opportunity to become a TESOL teacher than in a more oversubscribed subject such as English, Geography and History.
There are more job opportunities for people wanting to teach English to speakers of other languages than in traditional teaching, sot here are more opportunities. Learning about how to get involved with this career is easy. You can go on to the internet and find websites dedicated to helping qualified teachers and people wanting to get into teaching English as a second language. These websites can help you by giving you advice, displaying vacancies and introducing you to other people like you, helping you to become a TESOL teacher.
