Using a home remedy for a yeast infection is definitely not for everyone. But with more and more people learning about homeopathic medicine and other forms of alternative medicine and the rising cost of healthcare and the larger amounts of people without health insurance, it is becoming more accepted.
Some treatments like spreading cultured plain yogurt on and in your vagina are fairly benign if not entertaining, while other remedies should be approached with trepidation, like the boric acid vaginal suppository.
I'm all for experimenting and finding low cost alternatives to overpriced and over-marketed prescriptions and over-the-counter medicine, but when dealing with a very sensitive area of the body you've got to use some caution.
I'm sure if you talked to most doctors they would not recommend most home remedy treatments. But that's okay, doctors are generally taught medicine a certain way. If you are luck you might have a doctor who is trained in alternative medicine and he or she might be more open to advising you with home remedies.
Besides a variety of topical treatments for vaginal yeast infections, douching with a prepared solution can sometimes do the trick to eliminate the yeast. One teaspoon of tea tree oil mixed with one teaspoon of rubbing alcohol, mix together and use 10 drops in a pint of water. Apply daily for a week.
Hydrogen peroxide kills yeast, so a solution of one teaspoon hydrogen peroxide mixed with a cup of water should take care of the infection. Use once a day until the day after the symptoms are gone. When douching only use light pressure, you don't want too much force on the liquid as it enters the vagina. Too much pressure could force the solution into the uterus or cervix. Generally, douching is usually not a good idea, but it can be very helpful for this treatment.
