You can take many paths to learning the basics. You can start submitting to the directories before reading the guidelines and have your articles rejected and learn from your mistakes. Better yet you can read the guidelines first and save yourself and the editors at the directories a lot of time and energy. I rely on the second mode of learning for my success.
I also think too many writers quit before they get to article marketing expert status, because they aren’t in it for the long haul. If you are taking this road to get rich quickly, you’ve picked the wrong path.
Sure I’ve read the emails and the stories where someone wrote one article and had tens of thousands of clicks and thousands of sales. Do I believe their story? Partly, it could happen I suppose. But I don’t believe the part about if I buy their product I can do the same thing. I know the odds of one article getting that many clicks are so slim, I don’t count on it happening to me.
I’m not being overly negative here; I just like to focus on other things. What I do count on is my ability to continue to write articles until I get tens of thousands of clicks, no matter how many it takes me or how long. I’m in this for the long haul, and if you want to be an article marketing expert, I think you need to spend some time at it. Wealth may take a little longer than you want, but it can happen.
You need to keep learning from experienced writers and you need to keep writing. Don’t try to take short cuts and don’t give up. For me it helped to pay someone a small monthly fee for ongoing instruction and to help motivate me. Maybe you can do it alone, but I couldn’t and I am able to stay on track better this way.
