New bathrooms can cost an awful lot of money; even if you are not living the most decadent of lifestyles. However, a stunning look can be achieved even on the most shoe strings of budgets; just by applying yourself, thinking imaginatively and working out exactly what areas it is you are currently unhappy with.
When most people are tiring of their bathrooms, it is likely their frustrations will center on the details such as; lighting, fittings, color scheme and the like. Rather than rip the entire unit and start again however, focusing on these elements can change the entire look and feel.
One of the most affordable, cost effective and simple updates you can make is to your faucets and fittings. Simply by replacing the faucets throughout your suite can give an old and tired bathroom a fantastic facelift. You may find that your budget allows you to look for items from the leading designers; now that you are not replacing the whole suite.
If this is beyond your means however, spend some time looking online at auction sites and through salvage yards in your area. Reclaimed items can give some exquisite looks to bathrooms; and with many Art Deco fittings easy to find you could really add appeal. If something more traditional is sought; brass fittings are also readily available. For a sleek and stylish finish, chrome of brushed steel cannot be beaten.
Replacing an entire suite as already discussed is cost prohibitive. But a similar look and feel can be achieved by merely replacing the panel on your tub. Try and move away from plastic if you can and look for the more refined products made from materials such as; copper, glass or even a reclaimed iron railing.
When installing your panel however, do bear in mind that easy access will be necessary; should any problems with your household plumbing ever arise. If you are looking at something a little weighty; perhaps consider an access panel.
Adding a new mirror is another fantastic way to lift bathrooms. Go for the largest you can possibly squeeze into the space. Offering both light and space, they also have a mysterious quality of adding a touch of luxury and sophistication. If you really want a stand out focal point, add some back lighting or a brightly lit frame in a vibrant accent color.
Rather than replace the entire tiling in your bathroom; replace just the backsplash areas behind the basins and/or along the tub. If you are particularly adept; you could even try just replacing several of the existing tiles in a fragmented fashion. Again, go for bright accent colors, or something to match your new fittings.
Finally, as with any room, bathrooms can really be complimented by accessorizing. Look for bamboo mats to step out onto from the tub or shower; place soft, luxurious towels throughout and again, look for accent color pots and dishes to place toothbrushes, soaps and the like in. No matter what your budget, space or time constraints, an individual look that you will be proud to use can be yours.
