How to Choose a Logo Designer
By Asad Haroon, CEO of InsideUp.com
Logo design is the process of creating a visual mark that represents the company. A really effective logo helps create a brand and makes the company recognizable without any text, though it may be integrated into the logo itself (Apple, Nike, McDonalds have extremely effective logos). Finding a vendor for your logo design may be tough and you may have to work with several vendors until you find the one that's right for you.
Logo design is part of a whole branding philosophy. Working with a logo designer will help you uncover what you want your business to stand for and the designer will help you create a visual for that meaning. Here are some important factors to take into consideration when hiring someone to design your logo:
Portfolio - Logo designers have certain styles. Some designers specialize in formal logos, others specialize in cartoons, and others have a more organic and natural. But most are also quite versatile, depending on your requirements. Therefore, take a look at several design portfolios in order to narrow your selection down.
Price - The price of a logo can vary drastically depending on the designer and their experience. Some designers charge by the hour. Others charge by the project. Therefore, it is best to have a budget in mind that you can communicate to the designer. Some designers also charge based on the number of revisions you require. If you are on a tight budget, you may want to consider purchasing a template logo as well.
Rights - Be sure that you have a legally binding contract with your logo designer for full rights to the logo, including rights to use the logo on all types of merchandise, branding, marketing materials, internal documents, and more. Have an attorney review your contract to ensure that you have complete rights and will not have to pay the designer a royalty for his or her services based on your usage of the logo. Make sure your logo is available to you in a variety of formats: .jpg, .png, bitmap or whatever else you will need.
Communication - When looking for a logo designer, it is important that you feel comfortable communicating with the designer and that you are able to communicate with her through a variety of mediums. Understand that design is a process so you will be reviewing several different samples and then helping to “tweak” those. So a good working relationship with the designer is imperative so that you can reach the end result as efficiently as possible.
Logo design is important because it creates a visual that will represent your company. A good logo is not only professional in appearance, but it helps to define what it is that your company does. It is important that the logo reflects the company image. If you need help finding a
