Many people do not trust the ability of steam cleaning in cleaning their mattresses. While there are other ways to clean your mattress, steam cleaning is definitely a good choice.

For one thing, the heat from the steam annihilates the bacteria population in your mattress. Nothing can do that better than the heat that comes out from the steam. And if you know how to do it properly, you can get rid of the other horrors thriving in your mattress, not to mention the stains that do not seem to come off whenever you are using other cleaning methods.

Here is a simpler way of steam cleaning your mattress:

Step 1: Buy a good vapor steam cleaner. It should not cost you a lot as there are some steam cleaners that does not hurt our pockets but are still reliable. Prior to using it, remove all the air in it first to allow more space for the water.

Step 2: Put the right amount of water in its water reservoir. Make sure that you have not yet plugged the steam cleaner for safety purposes. Pull the trigger and allow the heat to form steam out of the water. Make sure you rest it first for a few minutes every so often to allow steam to accumulate.

Step 3: Once enough steam has accumulated (your steam cleaner has a signal that will tell you when it is ready), direct it to the area where there is visible dirt, stains and grime first. In conventional methods, they only use hot water. But while hot water is adequate in helping the dirt to come to the surface, steam is hotter than that, therefore, no dirt is left uncleaned. The steam will push it to the surface so it will be easier for you to scrub it clean.

Step 4: Once the mattress has loosened up a bit and dirt is already on the surface, use sponge or a brush to scrub it clean. If you want, you can use a cleaning agent like a mid detergent to help you get rid of the stains and the molds. Do this process until the stains are gone.

Step 5: Let it dry. Pat dry the surface with a clean towel and sprinkle it with the dependable cleaning agent baking soda. Baking soda actually helps in getting rid of the moisture. If it has not yet dried to your satisfaction, you can try airing it outside or sun drying it.
