A bad night's sleep can be painful. It can leave you feeling tired and lacking energy for days. Two or three hours sleep can be enough for some people but I know that I am not alone in needing at least seven hours before I am fit for anything. With too little sleep you can feel tired from the moment you wake up and will not function properly for the rest of the day, setting you off on a cycle of sleepless nights and unproductive days. Many people rely on a bedtime ritual to prepare them for a long and peaceful sleep such as having a warm bath, drinking a cup of warm milk or taking a few moments to breathe deeply. A little known fact is that our bedroom can be modified into a haven for sleeping. Your bedroom could be transformed into an ideal sleeping habitat with a few minor and low costing modifications.


LINED CURTAINS: Replacing your drapes with lined curtains has several benefits. They have insulating properties that regulate room temperature during hot and cold periods and can heavily reduce the amount of noise entering your room from outside. There is also the option to install a blackout lining which can be very useful during the summer months as no light is able to enter the room. Lined curtains will override the noises and sunlight that can prevent us falling asleep or wake us up prematurely.

SOUND STIMULATORS: We cannot relax if we have to listen to snoring or traffic from outside. There are certain sounds and noises proven to have relaxing qualities which you can purchase in CD form or pre loaded on a sound stimulator. Have the best sleep you have had in years by listening to soothing sounds.


YOUR BED: Your bed can make or break the way you experience sleep. Instead of spending hundreds of pounds on a whole new bed, you can purchase a mattress topper and a new duvet. Mattress toppers come in a variety of firmness so you can choose the right one for you and a good duvet will prevent any over heating or cooing down you might experience in the night. Making your bed the centre of relaxation and comfort will set you in good stead for a perfect night's sleep.
