There are two properties in life that are as important as life itself to us – your home and your car. This is the reason why most people try to look for high paying jobs, to be able to afford your dream house as well as your dream car. It is, therefore, not surprising that most people also spend a lot in ensuring that their house and their car are in tip-top shape.

One way by which you can ensure that your car is safe from damages is by having it insured. This is especially the case when you need to transport your car to another country or to another state. But what do you need to know about car shipping insurance?

Some auto transporters do not carry insurance coverage for the vehicles that they are transporting. In order to keep yourself from falling victim to theses transporters, ask for a copy of the certificate of insurance coverage. Make sure that their certificate is up-to-date.

Even while your car is being loaded into the container that will transport it, there is already the possibility that it could incur damages. This is the reason why you need to check with your car transport provider or mover if their insurance would cover both the loading and unloading of your vehicle. Ask them what are the inclusions of their insurance coverage and what the process is should you need to file claims.

Make sure that, when you ship your car, you ship it empty. Most insurance coverage does not include any valuables left inside the car. Go over your car and thoroughly inspect it before you turn it over to the vehicle transport services people and before you sign the Bill of Lading. Remember, a signed Bill of Lading can no longer be changed. Indicate in the bill any pre-existing damage that your car has. Do the when your car arrives to its destination.

In the even that your car incurs any damage, you might have to indicate this in the Bill of Lading. Most vehicle transport agencies would work with you in processing your claims for damages. Should they question your claims, however, you can always seek the help of authorities such as the Department of Transportation.
