Nothing new when it comes to cleaning up after your kitty messes. Not exactly the mess that occurs when your kitties get naughty and knocks down a pot of flowers or breaks you favorite vase. I’m talking about the cat messes i.e. the poos, the pees that may happen even though your cat has been behaving well all these while. Call it the kitty accidents.
Well each type of messes required different treatment. Let’s take a look each one individually.
Cleaning up of your cats’ urine
A word of caution is that when you see your cat peeing everywhere else except in the litter box, then you have to rule out the possibility of any medical problems.
Have your veterinarian perform a health check on your cat. Medical problems like diabetes; urinary tract infection may cause the cat to avoid the litter box.
This aside, here’s how you can clean up any urine messes left behind by your cat.
For Fresh Urine
This is easy if you happen to find these messes early. Simply blot it up with an old piece of towel and then spray the area with some water and blot dry again. Repeat this several times to ensure thorough removal of all traces of urine.
Old Urine Stains
It gets relatively more difficult to remove the odor when you miss this messes which are frequently found in more secluded places like the corner of the house, on a carpet, behind the fridge and so on. Sometimes, it’s not easy to even see these old urine stains although the area may be surrounded with cat’s urine stench. You can smell it and you may know the general area where the cat urine is, but pinpointing the exact location of the stain can be elusive. That means even if you clean a large area of your rug or furniture with cat urine odor removers you could still miss the stain entirely and be left with the lingering odor of cat urine. In this case, use a black light stain detector to find the exact spot. Then use a mixture of one part of white vinegar with 2 parts of warm water and clean the affected area. Alternatively, you may use enzymatic cleaner available commercially.
For carpets found with dried urine stain, enzymatic treatment may be necessary to remove the urine odor completely.
Cleaning up Cat’s poo
If you find well-formed stools in the house, consider yourself lucky because these can easily be picked up and thrown away and the area cleaned with some mild detergent. But when your kitty is having diarrhea, then it gets a bit messy. More diligent cleaning is needed and in addition to the detergent solution you are using, you most likely have to follow-up with an enzymatic cleaner to remove the stain and odor.
