The discussion of hemorrhoids doesn't occur that often. In fact, most people prefer to keep this subject to themselves. There are many at home treatments for hemorrhoids. For many of these treatments, you don't need to buy anything extra at the store.

Topical ointments will relieve some of the itching, while using a stool softener will ease bowel movements if you find yourself straining. By drinking more fluids and eating more fiber, your body will be able to pass wastes with ease. Altering your diet is more of a preventative to remember for the future as well.

Take it easy when wiping after a bowel movement. If you aren't able to change to toilet paper that is softer, try wetting the toilet paper you have. This is a less expensive home treatment for your hemorrhoids. You may also add some lotion to the toilet paper instead. Baby wipes are fantastic investment to make. They are extremely gently on your tender hemorrhoids.

Almost everyone has some ice in the freezer. Taking 10 minutes to apply this to the swollen area will make the hemorrhoids shrink. If you don't want to use ice, witch hazel will also make the hemorrhoids shrink and contract. Make sure to use a cotton ball to apply the witch hazel, it can be a messy home treatment if you don't!

Soaps with dyes and perfumes may smell nice, but they irritate inflamed hemorrhoids. It is preferable to wear cotton and loose clothing also. Cotton doesn't allow moisture to build up. The loose clothing is helpful in not constricting the swollen area or rubbing on it.

If the pain is causing too much discomfort, take some acetaminophen (Tylenol). It should ease the pain. Avoid taking ibuprofen or aspirin, these only make the bleeding much worse. As for the itching, hydrocortisone works wonders.

Rest will relieve a lot of the pressure felt when hemorrhoids are swollen. Laying down in bed is the best home treatment of all, instead of standing or sitting. If you do need to stand, do it for a limited amount of time. Sitting can be extended a bit by using an inflatable doughnut. The best at home treatment for hemorrhoids is gentleness!
