Clear Coated Copper Fountains

Applying Turtle Wax every once 2 to 3 months is an effective way to take care of the surface of the clear coating copper fountain. Pledge or other similar polishing products can also be used, just apply on the surface and wipe with a rag for daily maintenance. Be careful not to drop any wax or polish in the water or it will damage the pump. Prevent the accumulation of water on the copper parts.
Note: Never use copper cleaner due to its capability to damage the clear coat finish. Also be wary of mineral deposits, check if your tap water contains significant amount of mineral deposits. If an occurrence of white spots in the copper parts, wipe them off with Calcium Lime Remover following the guidelines that come with the bottle. Rinse thoroughly.
Natural Copper Finish Fountains
Pledge or other similar products can be used for daily maintenance. Prevent droplets of water to mount up on the copper parts over a period of time. Don’t use copper cleaner with clear coated fountains. It will remove the varnish or patina applied by hand, leaving the original bright copper finish. Also don’t use CLR or wax because it will also damage the patina. Just allow nature to conduct its own permanent patina or varnish if your fountain has no patina applied and you wish to oxidize it. Different hues of oxidation will develop on your copper but it will typically form the verdigris quality of an old copper roof. The preservation of the verdigris will rely heavily on the climate, water, and your maintenance of your fountain. Due to its sensitivity to the environment, exposure to air and water causes it to oxidize and darken from prolonged contact with sunlight.
