As a single mother, I found it difficult to go back to college, but as my children got older I was able to study from home and then gradually go back to college. But, why don't more mothers decide to go back?
Money is the main reason! Or lack of it, to be more precise. There are no two ways about it: college costs money, a lot of money in some cases. Private colleges can cost huge amounts of money in tuition fees. Public ones are a little cheaper. But which ever you chose it will cost a lot!
As a mum you are probably struggling enough as it is with paying the bills and taking care of your children.
I was very lucky to have such a supportive mother and father, so they took care of my children whenever they could, but when they couldn't I had to pay some one to care for them which was all more money.
But there was a way: scholarships for mums returning to school.
Even if you're unsure about going back, it means you no doubt have some desire to enhance your knowledge and get qualified in a field that interests you. Whether it's a new career you're looking for or you want to do the course you dreamt about at school, going back is by far one of the most rewarding things to do in life.
Your kids will be incredibly proud of you, and you can certainly feel like a great role model and know that your children will almost certainly put great amounts of time and effort in their school lives.
So how can mums get a scholarship?
There are a few ways to do it:
1. Apply via college and university departments.
2. Apply for scholarships on reputable websites.
3. Get a scholarship (support) from a local business, or from a large corporation. Check their websites.
4. Get a government grant or scholarships for mothers - especially if you are on a low income.
