Advantages and Disadvantages of Sears' new on-site maintenance policy

Sears stores always used to include a parts and service center. Customers could bring a defective Sears device to the service center for repairs. This service was handy for many Sears customers; however, Sears has canned parts and service centers in several of its stores. Instead, Sears offers on-site maintenance, in which a maintenance person comes to your house to repair appliances and items.

On-site maintenance can be convenient for larger items, for example lawn tractors. One major advantage for customers is that they can more easily communicate with the maintenance person. It is simple to get threatened in a service center ; you don't see the work being done, are surrounded by people who supposedly know more about your machine than you do, and may feel embarrassed about asking questions.

Sears maintenance delegates regularly have a backlog of calls for correct; a client would possibly not be able to get her machine serviced for a week or 2 after placing a call. Additionally, the character of on-site maintenance requires the customer to be home at the time of the service call, which may conflict with work or other requirements.

Some customers also feel more comfortable bringing a machine to a Sears representative because they do not like to let strangers into their home. Naturally, Sears takes every step feasible to ensure purchaser safety by screening potential maintenance workers before hire. Buyers who are worried about this issue may choose to get a new machine elsewhere rather than deal with home based maintenance.

Even given these disadvantages, it is sensible for Sears to can its parts and services center. In recent times, Sears has become known for its selection of larger items. Sears has become one of the number one manufacturers of lawn and garden care items, as an example, and many of those items are too enormous to expediently transport backwards and forwards to the Sears center for maintenance. Some items may even be damaged further if a customer attempts to bring them back to Sears instead of making an appointment for an upkeep person to come to their home. Therefore, it makes good business sense for Sears to emphasize home based repairs over service center based repairs.
