Expanding Obama's Scholarships For Moms - $10,000 In Funds To Include Parents, Not Just Moms

A working mother who wants to set an example and improve the lives of her children returns to school. This is the premise of the plan to help moms go back to school that has been developed by President Obama.

As a single working mom who just completed her Freshman Year of college I would be interested in the opportunity to obtain a scholarship that would enable me to not finish school in debt. I have seen the plan that gives scholarships to moms, but at this point it seems like more of a gimmick than a government funded program. I do enjoy going to school and I look forward to attaining my degree one day. I attend courses online, which is the only way I can work and take care of my daughter. The majority of my classmates work and have children. I am not unique in being a parent, working, and going to school.

I feel the scholarship plan would help more if the plan were designed for parents, not just moms. There are many fathers who would benefit from a scholarship for school. The main goal for many parents is to set an example for their children and to stress for them the importance of an education. Once a person becomes a parent they are looking out for the needs of another person and not just themselves. A scholarship for working parents would be a gift that would benefit both parents and the United States. Improving an education of one person raises their standard of living, which betters their community.
