As a single working mom who just completed her Freshman Year of college I would be interested in the opportunity to obtain a scholarship that would enable me to not finish school in debt. I have seen the plan that gives scholarships to moms, but at this point it seems like more of a gimmick than a government funded program. A dancing cartoon character usually pops up on my computer inviting me to click and find out more.
I do enjoy going to school and I look forward to attaining my degree one day. I attend courses online, which is the only way I can work and take care of my daughter. The majority of my classmates work and have children. I am not unique in being a parent, working, and going to school.
I feel the scholarship plan would help more if the plan were designed for parents, not just moms. There are many fathers who would benefit from a scholarship for school. The main goal for many parents is to set an example for their children and to stress for them the importance of an education. Once a person becomes a parent they are looking out for the needs of another person and not just themselves. A scholarship for working parents would be a gift that would benefit both parents and the United States. Improving an education of one person raises their standard of living, which betters their community.
