A good pair of walking boots should be well worn in before you take on serious hills or mountains. Walkers often suffer with painful foot injuries and severe blisters because this simple rule is not adhered to.

A rucksack with many pockets that can store small items and energy foods, plus, is also lightweight, is essential. It will need to be a good size and large enough to carry important pieces of kit such as; a first aid kit, tent, compass, map and sleeping bags, plus additional warm clothes and waterproofs to name but a few..

For the serious hiker or walker a strong and durable tent is a must. For the mountaineer a specific type of tent called mountain tents could be a good choice. These tents are both extremely lightweight, extremely strong and are built to keep people safe is very harsh environments.
