The face of motor insurance company Swiftcover.com Iggy Pop will be presented with a 'Living Legend' award by the Marshall Classic Rock Roll of Honour on November 2 in London.

The US punk pioneer - who is known for his crazy behaviour - seemed happy with his prize.

"All those years of banging away in the dives and palaces of the weird universe of rock are finally adding up to something," he said.

The 63 year-old extrovert - known for inventing the stage dive at rock concerts - joins a list of stars who have all won the award in previous years. These include Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Page, Alice Cooper and Lemmy.

"The other people who have received this award are absolutely awesome, and I feel very lucky to be included," added Pop.

The former frontman of rockband The Stoodges has been better known lately for his adverts for UK online car insurance company Swiftcover.com that you may have seen bouncing across the net and on TV screens.

In the adverts Pop is shirtless and sports a rather bright-looking orange tan whilst chanting "I got it Swiftcovered."

During his solo career Iggy's shock antics continued. In one interview from the nineties, he explains how he had the most terrible 'accident' of his career, "Once it turned out badly. I was on this dumb tour and was determined to outdo The Bloodhound Gang. All these little kids were looking at me thinking, 'Who is this weird old man?' So I did a predator drone on them - a surprise dive. They moved away and I dislocated my shoulder," he said.

But it looks like Iggy hasn't learn to take caution on stage. Last year the rocker injured his leg badly after falling off a speaker stack that he, at 61, tried to climb on top of.
