Being a single mother no longer brings an end to increased education and a career in the way it once did. In fact, under President Obama, increasing education and improving job prospects for single mothers has become a vital element in reviving the economy. By improving their lot, President Obama wants to improve the economy, adding them as a vitally-functioning component.
To do this, he has focused on improving the financial-aid opportunities available for single mothers. Specifically, he has increased the amount on money available to them through Pell Grants, raising the amount to $5,500 to cover education and its related costs, such as travel and child care beyond the traditional tuition and books,
President Obama has also recognized the benefits of online courses and has included them in the grants. No longer do single mothers have to leave their home to earn a college degree. They can earn one from their home by enrolling in an online program. The advantages of doing so are obvious. It allows for flexible study while also allowing oversight of children at home.
There is no guarantee that you will qualify for the grant, but there is a guarantee that you will NOT qualify if you do NOT apply. So there really is no reason not to try to take advantage of this program if it applies to your situation.
Certain rules apply to the program, which is designed to aid lower-income single- mothers.
Pursuit of a Pell Grant should not be ignored. Doing so does not require you to make any immediate career changes that may leave you in a bad position.
