Experience a true battlefield ambience while exploring one of the finest historic battlegrounds of Vietnam War, the Cu Chi Tunnels. Step into close fitting tunnels through well camouflaged trapdoors and be a witness to this fascinating attraction of Ho Chi Minh City.
Cu Chi Tunnels rest in Cu Chi District around 70 kilometres southwest from the city centre of Ho Chi Minh City. These tunnels span a staggering distance of over 120 kilometres. The Vietcong, Vietnamese liberation troops, occupied the Cu Chi Tunnels as their base during the famous Vietnam War. The perseverance and endurance of these guerrilla fighters can be witnessed in these narrow tunnels, where the basic essentials like food, water and air were scarce. To restrict access of intruders these troops even implemented false tunnels and booby traps with bamboo stakes.
These underground tunnels connected to chambers which were used as infirmaries, sleeping chambers, meeting rooms as well as storeroom and arsenal. They even had a narrow well to collect water sparingly and slender oblique air shafts for limited ventilation. A thin trail through the woods will take the tourists to a well hidden trapdoor, which blends with its surrounding amazingly. Step into a shaft which can fit in only one person at a time, and descend into this mesmerising labyrinth of tunnels. For the ease and safety of tourists, the underground tunnels have been later expanded, and are only toured in secured portions.
