The writing industry can be a very competitive market, and a writer or editor’s success depends heavily on how well she sells her message. An important part of the selling process is the medium she uses to send her message; with postcards, her message can have as much importance as a personal letter to her recipients!

Here are some tips on how you, as a copywriter or editor, can use postcards to market yourself effectively:

Effective Postcard Marketing Tips for Copywriters and Editors

*Say your USP now, and quickly: This is no place to impress your recipients with your wide vocabulary. Tell them why you sent them a postcard, what benefit is in it for them, and how they can get that benefit, all in simple, straightforward language.

*Let your message shine! You’re advertising your skills as a copywriter or editor, so make sure that’s the message people see when they look at your postcard. Some design elements are fine as long as your postcard won’t be mistaken for a graphic designer’s. The best way to go about this issue is to use a minimalist design, with a tasteful font choice that adds to your message’s impact.

*Check for spelling and grammatical errors. The smallest mistake can be devastating for your postcard marketing campaign – we are in the writing industry, after all! Check your copy several times until you’re sure there are no mistakes. Have a fresh, sharp pair of eyes help you with the proofreading too, just in case there are errors in the copy that you tend to miss.

*Include a URL of your online portfolio. This way you can set your mind at ease from worrying that you didn’t impress recipients with your postcard copy enough. Make sure your online portfolio’s URL is as short and memorable as possible. A URL with many subfolders will be hard to type and remember, and an artificially shortened URL is neither memorable nor meaningful.

*Place important content where the stamps don’t go: The website URL printed on the back of your postcard won’t be of much use if it’s rendered unreadable by stickers and stamps. Find out how much space you should allow for the stamps, or have a knowledgeable designer help you out.

Is this your first time to launch a postcard marketing campaign? Get professional help from a printer who does mailing services with wholesale printing. A quick search will give you many choices online, so choose wisely!
