Tom Jones can be considered to be among the few handful of artists to be popular through several generations of music from the sixties through to present day. He has won many accolades for his efforts and his albums are some of the most popular to date. The diverse variety of achievements this singing star has accomplished made him eligible for a knighthood in 2006.

Sir Tom Jones acquired success during the beginning of the swinging sixties with his band the Senators. In 1964 the group recorded a series of tracks to present to various record companies, however many labels found his sound too abrasive and raw and felt that his movements on stage were a lot like Elvis who was a key inspiration to the singer. Significant exposure came to Sir Tom Jones via the launch of his hit single “Its not unusual” in 1965. Initially due to the poor success of a previous single major radio stations such as the BBC would not play the single, its fame can be attributed to an independent underground radio station called Radio Caroline. Eventually the single topped both the UK and US charts putting Sir Tom Jones on the map. In the same year the singer was asked to sing the theme to the James Bond movie Thunderball and received the Grammy for Best New Artist.

Internationally, Sir Tom Jones initially was a very popular performer throughout Las Vegas playing at popular venues such as Caesars Palace, the Flamingo and the celebrated Copacabana in New York. Women used to fill the halls for these shows clambering to get a peek or a piece of the handsome singer. From 1969 to 1971 ABC Television in the USA aired a hit television show called “This is Tom Jones” and subsequently in the eighties the singer hosted “The Tom Jones Show”. In the 1970’s Tom Jones teamed up with Raquel Welsh for the TV special “Raquel!”. This show is considered a 70’s timepiece as it starred two of the biggest names in the entertainment industry at the time and was filmed at various locations with lavish sets worldwide and had guest appearances from icons such as John Wayne and Bob Hope.

Into the nineties and the new millennium Sir Tom Jones launched a series of new albums with interesting fusions with likes of the Art of Noise and more recently with celebrated pianist Jools Holland. In this time the singer hosted the first ever MTV Europe Awards and a received a BRIT award for outstanding music contribution.

Sir Tom Jones has no intention of quitting the music industry and still has the same youthful energy that led to the launch of his latest album “24 Hours” on the November of 2008. Riding on this energy Sir Tom Jones has a new concert schedule traveling across the globe dispensing his unique brand of rhythm and energy. Starting from the US and traveling towards the UK and Europe.
