The old man moved slowly across the cracked floor boards shuffling and chuckling. Who would have thought that a man could be convicted in such a manner? Just hours before the room he now moved slowly across had been filled with a hundred or more spectators who were watching the trial of a young man who was found guilty based on the testimony of a broom and dustpan. The kicker of the whole thing was that a Stanley Home Products salesman gave the most damning evidence of all.
That broom and dustpan had been left in the corner of a house where a man lay severely wounded and the rest of his family were gathered in an upstairs bedroom shaking and silent. The police could not get anything out of the rest of the family even after the man had died from his wounds. A Stanley Home Products catalog was sitting on a kitchen counter, and that broom and dustpan seemed to be in an odd place.

The corner where the pair sat was where a bookcase had been placed before. There was a small attempt at sweeping made, but there were dust tracks made to a spot on the ground, where it had been gathered up. The oddness of the Stanley Home Products catalog was that it was splayed open, upside down, and had one page missing. The page opposite had a spot of blood on it, and when other catalogs were examined, that page was not amongst any of them.
Well, the local man who sold the products was questioned and he verified that the broom and dustpan were, in fact, Stanley Home Products. After the blood was identified as the salesman's he was questioned, and then detained when his story kept shifting. The prosecuting attorney still could not get anything out of the family and so he had his men search the house and bring back anything that was suspicious. The cleaning implements were the first things that were collected and nothing could be discovered, but they were made exhibit A anyway because they had obviously swept up the dust in the corner.

Here is what happened in the courtroom. The circumstantial evidence that had been collected was the spot of blood, the broom and dustpan and the eyewitness testimony of a witness down the road who had seen him running to his truck jumping in and driving away. The family was questioned, but would offer no testimony as the defendant smirked at them. When he was brought to the stand the prosecuting attorney started to get agitated, he took exhibit A and slammed it against the juror's box and the broom's head flew off. Inside was a long thin sword-like instrument that was covered in blood. Court was recessed and the blood was found to be the victim's commingled with the defendant's. The sword blade was a piece of someone else's femur. He had threatened the rest of the family that he would cut them up and feed them to his dogs if they ever talked.

The extra page in the Stanley Home Products catalog? It was a map that a buddy had sent him to a cache of money that was disguised among the products.Stanley Home Products has been in business since 1931, and offers high quality home and personal care products to keep your home and your body clean.
