A cluttered car can be a nightmare, especially if you have young children, but every driver knows that certain things must be kept in your vehicle at all times. Certain elements are for in case of emergency, others are legal documents that you may need to provide in the event of an accident, and some you keep in your car for the simple convenience.
The first necessary item that all drivers must keep in their car is their motor insurance paperwork. Your schedule of motor insurance should be kept in your car at all times in the event that, should you be involved in a road traffic accident, you can share insurance information with the other involved drivers or road users. Your certificate of motor insurance, besides any paper work regarding emergency break down cover, can fit neatly in the glove compartment of your car, safe from damage or being lost.
Your car ownership manual can also be conveniently kept in your car’s glove box, or in the storage pocket in your driver or passenger side door panel. Your driver’s manual will instruct you in a number of technical elements that could be required at any stage, such as how to change a tyre, how to measure tyre pressure and so forth.
Much of what you choose to keep in your car will be to ensure that it runs efficiently, especially if you have a long journey ahead of you. A large bottle of water, kept neatly in the boot of your car, can come in very handy and can be used to fill the windscreen water or engine reservoirs. A bottle of water could also come in handy should you need a refreshing drink if you find yourself on a long hot journey, or in an emergency situation.
You may also choose to keep a spare bottle of car oil in your car, which could come in handy if your oil is low and needs topped up, particularly before or during a long journey. Maps are a popular favourite of car owners, besides a first aid kit, booster jump cables and a flat tyre repair kit.
You may also choose to keep certain things in your car for added safety, such as blankets, a torch and a spare powered-down mobile telephone with a fully charged battery.
Besides things you may keep in your car to keep it running efficiently, and for safety, you may also choose to keep items of convenience in your car for added comfort. These may include a box of tissues, a small inflatable pillow for tired passengers, tapes, CDs or DVDs for entertainment, and a tin of hard boiled sweets to your sweet tooth, to stave off distraction while driving or to ease travel sickness.
What you choose to keep in your car will differ wildly from what friends and family members keep in theirs, that’s because all of our comfort needs are different from one another’s. That said, there are certain things that you’ll keep in your car as a matter of legal issue, such as your motor insurance information.
While you needn’t keep your entire man’s or
women’s car insurance paperwork in the car, your certificate of motor insurance is certainly a must.
