Dewitt, NY – September 25, 2009: In its September issue, MHEDA Edge takes on one of the material handling industry’s hot topics—selecting the perfect service vehicle. When it comes to what type of service vehicle a forklift dealer should use, it’s not an easy decision. Material handling distributors want something that’s big enough to hold adequate parts inventory, but not so big that fuel mileage suffers. Can it be both a workshop and an office? MHEDA Edge answers that question.

To determine the answer, the Edge editorial staff interviewed a panel of material handling industry executives. Interviewees include Tim Balint of Advantage Materials Handling (South Bend, IN), Rob Stress of Greene Enterprises Material Handling (Tucson, AZ), Mike Holzbauer of (Stoffel Equipment Company (Milwaukee, WI), Joe Schmelzer of Equipment Inc. (Jackson, MS), Tom Showalter of Herc-U-Lift (Maple Plain, MN), Wayne Bates of B&H Industrial Service (Springfield, MO) and Spencer Whitt of A.M. Davis Co. (Springfield, MO).

As can be expected when discussing a controversial subject, all of the panel members have a unique take on what the ideal service vehicle is. Some prefer box trucks while others extol the virtues of vans. Still others prefer unconventional solutions like minivans or closed utility vehicles.

While there was dissension regarding the best type of vehicle, all panelists agreed that a distributor must balance its needs against the benefits of each type of vehicle provides and make a careful, informed purchasing decision.

The only way to find out all of pros and cons of each vehicle type is by going to http://www.mhedaedge.org and checking September issue of MHEDA Edge, the foremost online magazine for young professionals in the forklift, storage and handling, conveyor and general material handling industries. Don’t miss out on this valuable insight!
