Infants:
Yeast infections are unfortunately becoming more common forcing people towards getting a yeast free life. Known as Baby Thrush, yeast infections are commonplace in babies. This kind of infection occurs mainly in babies up to two months old.
Babies infected by yeast undergo distressful symptoms. The same can also infect older children. It is thus better to keep infants yeast free.
Causes:
• Antibiotics treatment with antibiotics that favor yeast growth
• The use of dirty pacifiers or bottles
• Breastfeeding with a yeast-infected mother
• Humid or warm climate
Remedies:
• With little or no medical intervention, yeast infection among babies is generally self healing.
• Small amounts of non-gluten grains, such as amaranth and quinoa or yeast free foods are recommended.
• Children could be given anti-Candida and cleansing foods. Moreover, Vitamin and Mineral supplements could be given to boost their immune system
• Daily dose of probiotics could be given after consulting a pediatrician, if the conditions persist
Precautions:
• Keep nipples rinsed and dry before feeding
• Both the pacifier and the bottle nipple undergo sterilization before use
• A mutual infection can be caused by breastfeeding of mother and child which can be very painful for the mother. As a result, moving the baby to alternate or artificial sources of milk is the only solution
Adults:
Among adults, yeast infection is caused in many parts of the body including the genitals and intestinal tract. With age, the
oral yeast infections become increasingly common. Yeast infections around dentures, under the breast and lower abdomen, in the nailbeds, and beneath other skin folds are also common. It is therefore advisable to keep yourself yeast free at all times.

• A weak immune system, regular use of antibiotics for diseases like cancer, diabetes, obesity, and so forth
• insufficient personal hygiene
• Soaps that contain color, chemicals and glycerin
• An imbalance in lifestyle and diet can also increase the chances of contracting the infection
Remedies:
• The infection can be treated with medication in liquid or lozenge form, and skin infections with creams or powders which keep the surface yeast free
• Consume the antifungal agent nystatin. The best way to do so is spread it in your mouth and then slowly swallow it.
• Other medication includes troches (antifungal lozenges) or pills such as fluconazole (Diflucan). These are known to be effective.
• Over the counter creams such as Clotrimazole (Lotrimin) and lotions can be applied to superficial skin infections. Doctors can also suggest prescribed medication if the condition is severe.

Precautionary measures, over treatments, are always recommended. Some of these include -
• Ensuring that personal hygiene is observed every day by showering and washing regularly
• Diabetics should keep their blood sugar under good control.

• Avoid sexual intercourse until the yeast infection heals in case the partner is infected
• A holistic approach is required in case the infection recurs
