Created in peanuts resveratrol is an antioxidant that is known to promote many potential benefits. Initially brought to the attention of health professionals as a potential explanation for the cardiovascular effects of wine. As scientists started to examine resveratrol’s part in lowering heart conditions it was discovered that there are other health benefits. A number trials have revealed that trans-resveratrol has life span extending benefits and might potentially be effective for longer life times.

The initially known study to document life time span of saccharomyces cerevisiae. The finding prompted further examination and the effects of trans resveratrol was studied in more higher order animals.

Scientists will usually start the examination with rudimentary organisms while understanding the effects of compounds on humans. Although trans resveratrol has been isolated for over fifty years it wasn't until the early 1990’s that health professionals started studying it extensively. The scenario until that time there weren't many clinical experiments being performed and so very little research information. Since the excitement for trans-resveratrol began there has been a great amount of data gathered. Nearly all of the statistics is extremely exciting which in turn has encouraged further research.

Following the first study to document life span expansion effects of resveratrol in yeasts clinicians rapidly investigated other organisms. Various varieties of flies were then examined and discovered to improve with trans-resveratrol. Armed with the exciting findings from performed tests of primitive animals research groups started determining the possibilities of resveratrol in vertebrates and other higher order organisms.

In late 2006 European scientists were productive in recording the earliest documented case of resveratrol expanding the life span in an animal with a backbone. The group studied a nothobrancius furzeri fish. The team were on point in expanding the fish’s life length from its normal 9 weeks by more than fifty percent. The fish that were provided trans resveratrol not only lived longer lives in general but also exhibited enhanced learning ability during their life. The report indicated significant upside for resveratrol.

Other experiments are now happening and more are planned. As more is found out concerning the impact of resveratrol supplements it seems like more to be happy about. Most of the clinical trials that examined the relationship between trans-resveratrol and life span have produced encouraging numbers. As health professionals continue to learn more they will with luck move next to the objective of harnessing the life prolonging effects of trans-resveratrol.
