I know that when most of us are sick we just want to sit down and do nothing. If you have a cold, your muscles ache and you head throbs and it like trying to think through water. But you now have a day where you can take time away from your job/business and get a hell of a lot done. That is, if you are willing to take action and not mope around the house like a 5 year old.
The best thing to do is to get some medicine into you, have a good feed of chilli, garlic, curry or onion (or do what I do and put them all together), grab an energy drink and get to work. You will feel better anyway if you are working and not just sitting feeling sorry for yourself.
Now I know that if you are sick that pumping yourself up on drugs and energy drinks will only get you feeling good for about an hour, maybe two so you don’t want to waste that time. So you need to get into what you want to do very quickly.
1. The first thing you need to do is plan what you want to do in that short window of upness that you feel. Take five minutes to plan out what you want to do, how long each thing will take and organise them into which is easiest and which is hardest. Do the hardest first cause as you medication starts to wear off, you won’t feel like doing anything to hard. So keep the easier jobs to last.
2. Take some time while you are off to review how things are going. Look at your goal list. If you don’t have a goal list create one. Review how your business activities are going. Are they working for you? So they need to be improved or even stopped? We don’t often get a chance in business to take time out to look at or goals or evaluate our business status so now is a good time. And if you are really feeling sick, you can do this one from the comfort of your own bed.
3. Do your hardest job now. Knock it over and get it out of the way. This will take probably most of you brain power and energy, so don’t waste it. If you start to feel a bit down, take a short break, but then get back into it straight away. Remember you may be sick but you are not going to waste time.
4. Once the hard jobs is finish move quickly on to the easy job. Now that you energy is starting run down again, this job should not take too much brain power. However just because its an easy job doesn’t mean you can take it easy. Knock it over quickly so that it doesn’t drag on.
5. The last one is rest. By now all the drugs and stuff in your system will be starting to weaken. You will need to ensure that you rest. If you have done the above steps than your business should be able to run for another 24 hours without you. Then tomorrow depending on how you feel, you can repeat the steps again.
The funning thing is, you don’t have to be sick to follow these steps. Even if you are in the best of health than this steps can really help you. Planning you time, setting goals, doing the hard job and then the easy will always help you out no matter how you feel. I should know, because as I write this I feel like death warmed up. And now that this job is out of the way I can move on to a few other things.
