Around one-fourth of the people who are victims of lung cancer do not even realize they suffer from such a disease. On normal circumstances in these cases, when a chest x-ray is done due to some other reason, the disease is hence identified. But most people do develop the symptoms associated with lung cancer. The symptoms are due to the effect of the primary tumor, or the metastatic tumors located in other parts or disturbances of blood, hormones or other systems that may be caused by this cancer

The symptoms of lunch cancer could include coughing or coughing of blood, breath shortness or chest pain. Following should be kept in mind before diagnosis.

- The concern for lung cancer should rise when a smoker has a new type of cough which is not normal


- When a cough over time just worsens should be evaluated to see if the person is diseased

- Any amount of coughing blood is of concern. Since most people who are victims normally only cough out blood

- The pain persisting in an individual, which is different than normal.The pain could be aching, dull and may involve other structures surrounding could also raise concern. Chest pain is one of the main symptoms among one-fourth of the people affected by lung cancer

- Shortness of breath, maybe because of the blockage of the free flow of air in parts of the lung area.

- Wheezing and inflammation of the lungs are also of major concern

- Repetitive infections in one’s respiratory organ such as bronchitis or pneumonia could be an alarming sign


Lung cancer today and has always been a disease that is easily preventable because more than 90% of the victims have suffered from lung cancer only because of just one major reason, that being smoking. The best way of preventing such a fatal disease as lung cancer is not to let loved ones smoke and not smoke.
