San Sebastian is a tiny city with a cosy feel it has several beaches, great cafes and numerous bars. It is split into the Old city ( Parte Vieja ), Gros and Centro.
There are many things do to in San Sebastian buts lets start with the beaches. There are 2 main beaches on both sides of the river. The 1st is La Concha which is on the west side and is larger. La Concha is shielded from the sea and has an island and boats in the bay. La Zurriola is to the east of the town and is a surf beach so counsel of you like water sports such as surfing and canoeing.
When in San Sebastian one thing I would defiantly recommend is the short straightforward hike to visit the statue of Christ on top of the mountain between the beaches. It takes almost an hour at a gentle pace. There's a bar on the way up if you would like a break and stop for refreshment.
One vital thing to take into account is that when in San Sebastian remember although you are in Spain you are really in the Basque Country. There locals are awfully proud and noble folk and have their own language. It's a good tip to learn the basic words in Basque for please, thank you and hi and so on. Your are in Donostia not San Sebastian and if you remember that you are going to thrill the neighbors.
