This article will give the reader ideas on what is needed to get publicity for accountants. Roger is an accountant. He runs a small business and has a full client list, even through the recession. He deals with local clients. All his clients are within 60 miles of the office. He does not overwork himself to death. He has employees and takes his vacations regularly. When the economy turned, he made himself have even a higher profile in the community.

His publicity was not about putting out a few press releases 3 times a year. He looked around at some of the struggling non-profits and took on a few cases. He was able to help them get organized and get their records up to date. He then asked the director to give him a short testimony that he could use. He also used the experience to write a short white paper for other non-profits to read and learn from. He called the local radio stations and let them know what he was doing and to ask their help in getting the word out about it.

He had some basic media training so when he left messages, he knew to be short and yet draw their curiosity. In less than a month he was on 3 radio shows and the calls started coming in. A few of the calls were from non-profits wanting the free services. Many were from small business owners who realized he could help them too. After hearing him on the radio, they felt more comfortable engaging him. They could see what they needed and he seemed like the best person to do it. After all, he did even help some people for free.

He did not over load himself with clients who could not pay for services. He helped a few people and spent the proper time on his paying clients. He also did some advertising and a few networking functions. He was surprised at how many people recognized him from the radio show interviews. It gave people something to talk about. One person told him, he even made accounting sound interesting.

Roger is seen as one of the best accountants in town because he cultivated publicity and also got some good will as an extra.

If you are an accountant with a small budget, consider these ways to get publicity.
1) Help someone and then get a testimony that you can use in your advertising
2) Get some media training and get on your local radio shows
3) Put out press releases the same time you are doing some media
4) Write a white paper and put a press release out on it.
