Building a kids soccer team can be tricky, but is ultimately an amazingly rewarding experience. It takes a lot to successfully coach a kids soccer team. It can take a lot more patience than a soccer coach may normally be used to. Making your kids feel valued, building up essential skills and instilling teamwork and a desire to win are some of the most important aspects to successfully coaching a kids soccer team.

Make Your Kids Feel Valued

Part of your job as a coach is to make your kids feel like they're a valued part of the team. As a result of your coaching, they should feel that they are good soccer players and that their skills are valued.

Although sometimes more forceful language might be used in training, it's important that at the end of the day your players know they're a valued member of the team.

A coach should never, ever verbally abuse a team member with malicious intent. Even harsh language must come from a place of believing in your kids and wanting more for them and their game. It's important they know that too.

Build Up Essential Soccer Skills

Shooting. Dribbling. Passing. These are all essential skills to playing a great soccer game.

To build up a great kids soccer team, it's important that they have all their basic skills down. It's important that your team is well rounded and has all their bases covered. For example, if your team is great at shooting but terrible at passing, that's a losing strategy.

Build a well rounded, capable team by using drills. Use properly selected drills to build up your team's skills in various areas of the game.

Instill a Sense of Teamwork and a Strong Desire to Win

Finally, your job as a coach is to build up team spirit.

The best way to do this is to lead by example. Remember, you're part of the team as well. In fact, you're usually the very first member of the team. Your degree of dedication to working as a team and winning as a team is what will inspire your team members to feel the same.

Training is a great place to start building the value of teamwork and good spirited competitiveness. Your kids should learn the value of working as a team early on. Winning together is more important than taking credit.

Kids Soccer Training

These three key skills are vital skills to master if you want to build a great kids soccer team. Once you've got these three skills down, your team will be an absolute force to be reckoned with!
