Obama is committed to helping single mothers return to school. As Government grant scholarships become available, single moms venture into college with not only hope, but with the dedication to succeed.
Many women are swept up into the lust of motherhood and often unaware that their future will be forever changed by their children. The price of motherhood often costs women their dreams and often times, their education. By saying this, I do not mean to make light of the joy that motherhood brings a woman, but to bring respect to those women who have endured the struggles of single parenthood and those who continue to be successful and reach for their dreams. If a working, determined, single mother is not a role model to her child (or any child for that matter), then I don't know who is.
Due to our sinking economy, many people - men and women alike - are finding themselves unemployed and cutting out all of their usual luxuries and extra expenses. The economy is a fickle thing, and recession is something that we expect to see in our economy, it is a cycle. But at times like this, when the decline into our recession dips lower than usual, we find ourselves in a panic, fearing for our stability in our finances and in our lives.
Parents are hit hard, but single moms are hit harder than most others. With only one income to support a family, the fear of losing a minimum wage or unstable job can so quickly become reality. College is, of course, an expensive investment which many of us cannot afford, especially in our downward spiral further into recession. But the economy always bounces back up from its decline, and the cycle always begins again. From here, getting a degree in almost any career field can be done; it just takes work and determination. For this reason, Obama and the US Government have granted money for single mothers to attend college and get a degree, an education that they so rightfully deserve.
When our economy begins its climb back into stability, many jobs are going to be in extremely high demand. Many employers and companies are going to be begging for the extra hands they had to cut loose due to their financial strain. In this recession, we find the perfect time to better ourselves and our educations. Single mothers have worked hard for what they have and what they provide to their families and I believe that their time to better themselves is far overdue.
