In Europe, Lexus IS 250c will have just one engine option, which is V6 205bhp petrol. The engine is matched to a six speed automatic transmission. The car is not sporty and takes around 9 seconds to reach sixty miles per hour. This is largely because it is 100kg heavier than the saloon.
However, the car is meant for stately cruising, which it does very well. The American version of the Lexus IS 250c has a bigger engine, which makes it sportier. The Lexus IS 250c is an easy car to drive, as it is loaded with technology to make driving it safe and easy. The feedback from the steering is good and positive and the brakes are well weighted.
All round visibility is excellent with the top down. However, this is reduced with the top in place because of the small rear window. The instrument panel layout is the same as in the saloon. However, they have been carefully revised to suit top down driving conditions. The colour of the dials is changed, and the LED contrast increased.
The shape of the needles is also changed. The windshield has been raked back to reduce resistance. The climate control has been configured for top down driving and increases with an increase in speed. Lexus IS 250c offers the safest drive in its class, and it has scored five stars in American and Euro NCAP tests.
The Lexus IS 250c is very well suited for taking a stately drive in an open top car. The rear seats are not as spacious as would be expected in a luxury car. The Lexus IS 250c should not be mistaken for a sporty convertible just because it come with an open top. It's an excellent cruiser, which can be handled well and can cruise at over a hundred miles an hour without any fuss.
The structure of the Lexus has been designed to eliminate vibration with an open top driving. A large number of convertibles gave an irritating experience. The ride quality is smooth on all road surfaces and not uneasy, as is the case in some sports cars. Passenger comfort is well catered for and the equipment list in a Lexus IS 250c is quite generous.
The Lexus IS 250c is for people who enjoy driving a stately convertible that is luxurious and safe. It is not a sports convertible and should not be mistaken for one.
