There are many reasons that people get massage, but how does it work? The physical effects of massage are powerful and effective. Massage works to increase circulation leading to cellular health, helps elimination of waste build up in muscle tissue and increases joint mobility for over all health.

Applied pressure and movement used in massage can increase the rate of blood flow by stimulation of nerve receptors causing blood vessels to dilate. Individual cells are dependent on this flow of blood for nutrients, oxygen and elimination of waste.

Shortly after exercise begins lactic and carbonic acid build up in muscle tissue, these waste products can cause pain and cramping. Massage disperses the accumulated by-products of exercise that irritate muscles and speeds up muscle recovery rates.

Healthy joints are essential for the body to function properly. Lower back pain, a stiff shoulder or a swollen knee interferes with our ability to fully enjoy life. Massage increases blood flow to these areas and releases muscle tension freeing tissue that decreases a joints movement.

What occurs during a massage is profoundly important for those interested in the quality of health and well-being. Ample blood flow, elimination of waste and joint mobility are essential to experiencing overall health. With regular massage therapy treatments you can improve your overall health while preventing or recovering from injury.
