Are you getting to the point that your child needs to make the move from the crib or mommy and daddy’s bed to “The Big Bed”?

Maybe he or she has simply outgrown their crib or they are constantly falling out of it. Or, you may just have another child on the way and you will need the crib for the new baby shortly. If your child is standing in the crib waiting on you each morning then it is likely that it has reached the point that you need to move them to the big bed.

It could be that your child has been sleeping with mommy and daddy and that they have really reached an age that you no longer need to allow that to continue.

Your child may be one that grows or develops faster than another and therefore you should not make your decision based on age alone. A child that is taller than three feet may need to be transitioned purely for his or her comfort.

Whenever the time is right for the move then try to make it fun for your child. Praise him or her for making the move to the big bed. If you have to buy a new bed for them, then let them help you select the new bed. If you already have a bed for them, then at least let them help you select some new bed sheets and covers.

Take time early in the day to introduce your child to the new bed. Allow him or her to sit on the bed for a while. Maybe you good make a sign with their name and attach it to the headboard of the new bed. If the bed has any storage space then let your child place their books or toys there to imply ownership of the bed. After this introduction then leave the room and don’t focus on the bed anymore until bedtime.

Then when it is time for bed go through your usual nighttime routine. That may be to read to your child, kiss them good night, say their prayers with them, have some water or juice; whatever you would have done in the past when placing them in the crib or in mommy and daddy’s bed.

The market offers so many cute beds for children today. There are beds that look like race cars, decorated with a theme like Dora and Disney themes. There are a lot of fun designs.

So if you in a position where you have to buy a new bed for this move, then shop around and look at some of the really cute, fun beds that are available on the market and don’t forget to let your child help pick his or her new bed.

If it is a fun bed then let your child show it to all their friends as their new bed. Then at bedtime, if you have to you can remind them that it was their new bed earlier in the day.

It may be that you have to take them back to their bed several times for the first night or two. Eventually they will get the idea that they are going to have to make this transition. Hopefully, you have been able to make this such a fun experience that you won’t have a problem at all with the transition.
