If you are at your wit's end to stop your dog's constant barking and you are sick and tired of being embarrassed when you take your dog out and he is continually barking at other dogs then at some point or other you must have thought "If only there was a device to stop my dog barking". Now trust me, you are not alone in this situation, dog owners everywhere worry about their dog's barking and the effect it has, not only on them as owners, but on the neighbors as well.

I too have suffered from the frustrations of a very vocal dog and so I spent a while researching on line what devices are available on the marketplace and do they work? There are various devices available, depending on how much money you can afford to spend and these are namely:

Spray collars - These collars work on the basis that when your dog barks they emit a spray of citronella into the dog's face. Most reviews say that they had little effect on their dog's barking. Some of the collars were too heavy for the dogs and in a short space of time they learnt to outbark the spray.

Anti shock collars - these work on the basis that when a dog first barks they hear a beep sound and if this is followed by them barking again then they receive a mild electric shock. Persistent barking results in the shock getting more intense. I personally, and an awful lot of dog owners find this method inhumane since different regulations in different countries mean you can never be sure of the intensity of the shock administered.

Ultrasonic dog barking devices - these work on the concept that an internal microphone picks up the sound of your dog barking within a certain radius, and emits a shrill noise that cannot be heard by humans. Mixed reviews state that the device works initially because it puzzles the dog, but then quite quickly the dogs get used to it and simply ignore the sound. The devices are also pretty hefty on batteries!

After reading a great many reviews on devices to stop my dog barking I came to the conclusion that there is no "quick fix" solution and you have to be willing to spend a lot of time and patience on understanding why your dog is barking before you can go ahead and control the barking.

I am now the proud owner of a dog who is far less vocal thanks to the help and advice I learned from a professional dog trainer. Trust me, his methods really work and you too can improve your dog's barking habits with these methods. If you seriously want to improve your relationship with your dog and your neighbors you need to control his barking and you can do this with Secrets to Dog Training or go visit www.petproductz.coma for help and advice on all aspects of dog behavior and training.
