“Of course, John,” he said. “We heard that you were going to be on this flight, and since we had a meeting at Headquarters, we figured we’d join you and keep you company for a while. Always good to see a friend.”
“But how did you get on the plane?” I asked.
“Listen,” said Marla. “Why walk on water when you can fly?”
“John,” said Gideon, “there are other ways of traveling that you’re not acquainted with, yet. We are here and that’s what’s important. How long are you staying in the Big City?”
“I’m coming back this evening. How long will you be there?”
“We’ll return this evening or tomorrow.It doesn’t matter. We’re having a regional meeting at Headquarters. Should only last a few hours. You remember our Headquarters, don’t you? You were there a few years ago.”
“Of course, I remember. Meeting God and all that. Is He still around?”
“Where else would He be?” Inquired Marla.
“Sometimes I wonder,” I muttered to myself.
“Always cynical, aren’t you, John?” Gideon observed. He continued without waiting for my response. “Will you have any free time? Perhaps we could meet for a little while. You need some relaxation.”
“I’ll be free after my meeting,” I said.
“Why don’t you come to Headquarters with us this afternoon?” Marla asked. “Our meeting won’t be long, and we’ll be able to spend some time together before you return to the airport. That should work out just fine. What do you say, John? The Chief will be there, too.”
“The last time I was there, it was glorious and frightening all at the same time, but I’d love to go. It’s not every day one meets with God, you know.”
“Not every day, but every hour and every second you meet God. Sometimes He worries about you. He has asked us a number of times to bring you again for a short visit. He thinks you need the inspiration and a closer look at the company.” Marla looked at me and nodded as if that explained everything.
