Moving into a home is an extremely difficult process, with all kinds of concerns vying for your attention. While making the family comfortable and happy is the goal of many homeowners, you can’t forget the safety end of the equation. Whether you installed your home security system at a busy time or simply didn’t devote your complete attention to it, many homeowners will wake up one day and realize their family is inadequately protected. It might not even be the case of moving to a different home, as older alarm systems can provoke the same concerns. Here are five reasons to consider your home security plan inadequate and get started on an overhaul.

1. Your motion sensors don’t have the range. Covering the maximum amount of territory is the goal of any motion sensors that are operated by your home alarm system. If you have invested in infrared sensors, make sure they are covering that territory and you don’t have a large amount of gray areas. The same goes for photoelectric sensors. Are there enough points of redirection for this system to remain viable?

2. Huge gaps are apparent in the exterior of your home. You can’t forget about the exteriors when putting together a tight security plan. Whether it’s the garage out back or the driveway out front, you may want to consider extending your range of control. Thieves don’t have to come inside anymore. Plenty of damage can be inflicted with a trip to your mailbox or among your tool shed, not to mention your car in the garage. See how extending the reach of your motion sensors can solve these problems.

3. False alarms are wearing on everyone. Your neighbors hate it; your family is embarrassed by it; even your pets may feel the burn -- poorly programmed home alarms will trigger a number of false alarms and cause far more stress than any family deserves. Pet detection sensors should handle the movements of your cats and dogs around the house. Otherwise, if you are seeing alarms triggered by lights and other different sounds, it’s time to upgrade your system. Whether it’s the annoyance itself or even fines being handed out by law enforcement, you simply don’t need the hassle.

4. Blind spots are becoming worrisome. In larger properties, there is always a certain amount of unease when considering the unseen areas. Can you feel like all the threats are under control? Many homeowners believe security cameras can put these concerns away, as seeing is certainly believing.

5. The little things went overlooked. Setting up a first-class home alarm system may be an exercise in futility if you have overlooked the details around the house. Your doors should have strong deadbolts, your pathways should be cleared for safe entry and your windows should have broken glass detectors. For more dangerous areas, consider reinforcing vulnerable windows.

Planning for total security is not easy but ADT security can do the job for you. See how ADT home alarms can take on the biggest threats you face.
