To scholarships for mothers program that was part of Pres. Obama's stimulus package has been sweeping the nation and the Internet for the last few months. Millions of people, specifically single moms, will be able to access the billions of dollars offered so that they can return to college and earn a two-year college degree. Here are a few grants that a single mom can start on the road toward a free college education.

By increasing the amount of the federal Pell Grant that has been offered for decades in the United States by over $1000, the president has made it possible for almost any community college to be paid for with free Federal funding. The type of degree that you choose typically does not matter and distance learning classes are also offered as part of this package.

Raising children on your own is a very difficult task. Once you have worked your full-time job and have to take it down for bed, this is your free time that you have allocated so that you can earn your college degree. Taking classes is difficult and some of them will be very mentally treacherous. But the determination of single moms will override any possibility of failure and once they succeed, the thousands of new careers that require special training will be killed by these amazing women.

Qualifying for any scholarship is a needs-based situation. If you already have enough money to pay for school, typically you will not qualify for any grant. Some grants you earn based upon your academic achievement and deeds you will receive regardless of how much money you already have. Applying for the new stimulus package grants, including the Pell, requires a certain income level to be careful when applying and realizing that there's a possibility that you may not get as much as offered.

The president is providing this opportunity to shape America up and bring more people into the work place in higher paying careers and jobs so that the tax base can increase. Moreover, the more money people make, the more they can spend which will inevitably help the economy recover. If you are a single mother and would like to pursue a college degree at no cost to you, it is time for you to apply for the available grant programs, choose your major, and move in a direction of academic achievement.
