Out of all the various card games, one which still manages to captivate the imagination of people all around the world is Rummy. It is very popular as just like poker, rummy also contains the various ingredients such as wagers that will make it exciting, especially if you play on a
folding card table. However, unlike poker, rummy involves a lot more skill. The following are the common understood rules of rummy although there are no standard official rules of rummy that have been created.
A lot of the various elements of the game can be modified and may exist in some versions of rummy. Such rules have been designed mainly for real life card playing situations. The basic rules of rummy are as follows:
Rummy can be played with 2-6 players using a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Usually, a game of rummy continues until one player manages to reach a pre set targeted score. Unless otherwise indicated, this targeted score is set at 100 points. The first dealer is chosen at random. Very often, this first dealer is decided at random with all players having to draw a card from the deck; whoever gets the lowest card has to be the first dealer. Depending on the number of players playing, the cards are dealt.
In rummy, the main object of the game is to get rid of all cards which can be done in any of the following 3 ways.
Draw (Compulsory) –Every player has to begin by either taking from the top of the stock pile a single card, or by taking from the discarded pile the top card. Once drawn from the stock pile, the card must be added without it being seen by any of the other players. If a card is taken from the discarded pile, the other players will know which card was taken as the discard pile is face up.
(1) Melding (Optional) –Here, cards may be discarded through combinations of a run or a set of 3 or more cards.
(2) Laying Off (Optional) – Here cards from your hand have to be added to the previously placed melds.
(3) Discarding (Compulsory) –Over here, a card from a hand has to be placed on the discard pile.
