Being an appendix, an index is necessary and its importance cannot be understated. It simply guides the reader. The index is similar to that you would find in a text book. Just like the references page, the index page should follow the alphabetic arrangement. Generally, the appendix simply helps the professor identify with the bibliography and locate any points in the term paper that may have generated their interest. Though it is sometimes left out in some citation styles, it is nonetheless essential and should be included in the citation style that warrants it.
